The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan

Back-Story: I am a huge fan of Rick Riordan. I have all of his Percy Jackson books, Heroes of Olympus books, and The Kane Chronicle books.

Review: I liked this book a lot. It’s my second favorite (the second one book being my first favorite) and I really enjoyed how the things evolved and how their final battle was. The book had Riordan’s humor like all his other books and it was quite enjoyable. I’m sad that the series is over, but I’m really happy with how it ended.

Looks: I love all of Rick Riordan’s covers and this one is nice and goes along with all the other covers.

Content: There’s a lot of action and a lot of things go on at once and sometimes it’s hard to keep up, but you still get the just of things and don’t really miss out.

Likes: I love Sadie’s character and I love Setne even though he’s evil. I also love Walt and Anubis and even though I was rooting for Walt to win Sadie’s heart I’m happy with how things ended up.

Dislikes: I didn’t dislike anything except the fact that the series is over.

Overall: This is a really good series for anyone to read because all of Rick Riordan’s books (Percy, Heroes of Olympus, and Kane) are clean. There are no cuss words and nothing sexual. There’s lots of action and some romance, but it isn’t the kind of romance geared for older audiences. The characters are around fifteen and are just getting into the dating world which makes these books good for kids that age and older people that don’t want to read about how hot a guy is and how much a girl wants to make out with him. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book especially to fans of the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus series, and even to people that want a light romance instead of hot and heavy.

The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead

Let me start this review by first saying that I am a big fan of the Bloodline series. I love love love it and I think Sydney and Adrian are the best people ever and totally belong together. Now, if you haven't read this series then I suggest not reading this review. I don't feel like there are many spoilrs in this that would actually ruin anything, but if you don't want to read even the slightest spoiler then I suggest not reading this.

Overall, I was disappointed with this book. The series went from pretty good, to fantastic, to good, and then to just okay. I went into reading this book with high hopes because the second and third books were so good, but unfortunately, this book did not live up to my expectations. I thought it would be fun to read the book from both Sydney's and Adrian's sides, but it was actually not fun at all. The series is better off only written in Sydney's point of view. When I first heard that we would be getting inside Adrian's head and feeling his insanity I was so, so excited. I thought it was going to be great! It ended up being not so great. I guess it was nice to get a glimpse of how he thinks, but I think a lot of Adrian's appeal comes from how Sydney sees him and tries to figure out what he's thinking. I was also disappointed that Adrian isn't as insane as everyone claims he is. I felt like all the characters perceive his crazy at 100% when it's actually like 30% or 40%.

Adrian and Sydney's relationship wasn't as fun to read once they were together. I personally always like it better when couples aren't together yet than to when they are actually together. Its much more interesting to me. For the most part the book was just average. Towards the last 80 pages or so the story picks up and gets really interesting and really good. The way it ends makes me feel like the next book is going to be really great.

As a side note, I am so confused by the cover. Apparently the two on the cover is Sydney (duh) and Adrian. That makes sense. But I read this whole book thinking that the guy on the cover was Marcus because of the hair. And I was confused as to why Marcus was on the cover when he has no part in it and the book is all about Adrian. It wasn't until I read someone's review that I realized that the guy on the cover is Adrian. That really annoys me, not because it's Adrian. I'm glad it's Adrian, but because of his hair. On the first and third book his hair is longer and looks a bit more like Adrian type hair, but then you get to the fourth one and it's just like what? What's happened to his hair? This doesn't affect my opinion of the book and it's writing, but it does annoy me because I really hate it when book covers aren't consecutive.

If you haven't read this book yet then I'm going to go ahead and tell you not to expect much. It's a bit of a let down after how great books 2 and 3 were, but I would still encourage you to read it. I sincerely hope that book five will be a great one that's worth waiting for. If not, then I'm going to be totally beyond bummed.

10. Better off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17228280-better-off-friends?from_search=true

Swoon-worthy Books (in no order):

1. Crush by Lacey Weatherford
Dylan is one hot guy, let me tell you! He has just the right amount of bad boy and sweet guy, and it's perfect. Just perfect.

2. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Oh, Étienne. I can't even put into words how much I love you.

3. The Iron King by Julie Kagawa
One Word: Ash

4. Abandon by Meg Cabot
John Hayden is a guy I'm going to love forever. He's sweet and misunderstood which just makes you love him even more!

5. When Lightning Strikes by Meg Cabot
Rob Wilkins has got to be the hottest grit I've ever met.

6. Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter
Zachary Goode is one hot spy.

7. Die for Me by Amy Plum
I love to read this book over and over and not just because it's a great book. But because of Vincent too.

8. Juliet Immortal (book one) and Romeo Redeemed (book two) by Stacy Jay
The romance in these books are so great, it puts the original book to shame.

9. Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky
This book is so great. It's probably the best futuristic book I've ever read and the romance is beyond perfect.

10. Flirting in Italian by Lauren Henderson
A great travel book with a mystery. And the Italian boys... what can I say? I love them.

11. The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson
Really, any book by Maureen Johnson has a good romance. 13 Little Blue Envelopes is a great travel/romance read, but I think The Name of the Star (although more mystery with really no romance) is a great one. Stephan is someone I want in my life.

12. Megan Meade's Guide to the McGowan Boys by Kate Brian
Now, let me emphasize the word boys. Boys. As in plural. Megan moves in with her childhood friends she hasn't seen in years, and the house is full of boys. Seven boys. Seven boys!

13. Delirium by Lauren Oliver
Alex is seriously the best guy to ever have a crush on. And I think the first book is the best, plus or minus the romance.

14. How to Ruin a Summer Vacation by Simone Elkeles
Another travel book, but I think this one is probably the best travel book I've read. Avi is a great bonus. ;)

15. Everneath by Brodi Ashton
There are two, count them, two guys in this book that are totally loveable. It's hard to choose which team, but do we really have to pick?

16. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
Patch is hot. So hot. So so so hot.

17. Shadowland by Meg Cabot
The first book crush I ever got was from this series. Jesse is one hot Latin ghost.

And there you go. My list of Totally Hot Fictional Guys That I Wish Existed in Real Life. I hope you enjoyed it!

United States of YA

Hello Everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

A few weeks ago I stumbled across a list of books from my local library. The list was made by Epicreads and it had a book that took place in every state in the Untied States. In the spirit of New Years and revolutions, I made it a goal to read all of the books this year and to write reviews on them. I'm going to be posting them on here so you all can go along with me. It's like a mini trip around the states!

I do have a few rules though:

1. If the book is about demons or witches, I will NOT read it. It isn't something I want to get into and as a Bible believing Christian, I'd rather not read them.

2. Some of the books in the states (like Louisiana) are sequels and not the first books of the series. If I haven't read the series at all, I'm going to read the first book of the series instead of just jumping into the second, third or fourth.

3. I plan to replace the books that go against my faith with books that still take place in the state. For instance, Georgia's is a series about witches. I choose not to read that book, so I'm going to replace the book with a different one that still takes place in Georgia.

That's all my rules. You guys can choose to either go along with me, make your own, or not make any at all! It's all up to YOU.

I hope you all join me for the trip across the United States of YA!
